Internalizing A Company’s Core Values

SATS: A customised program for 1,400

SATS is the leading provider of gateway services and food solutions in the region. With more than 60 years in the industry and serving in 10 countries, SATS caters to the needs of the aviation sector and a host of other businesses in hospitality, food, healthcare, freight and logistics industries besides governments.

With more than 14,500 staff spread across multiple geographic locations, building a strong workforce that can thrive in a dynamic industry can be challenging.

Client Need

SATS Human Capital wanted to create a customised programme for 1,400 of it’s supervisors and senior management to help them internalise its core values of Trust, Innovation, Safety and Security, Collaboration and Operational Excellence and also to increase the sense of ownership of the business.

Approach & Mapping

ROHEI conducted 12 focus groups and 6 site visits to understand SATS’ business and operating environment. It finally chose the WSQ Manage Workplace Challenges with Resilience module as a base for creating a contextualised programme for SATS.

The approach taken was to increase individual and organisational resilience by operationalizing their core values alignment among the staff. In order to minimize operational disruption and still create a sense of momentum, a two-day station based learning carnival format was used to train 100 persons at a time. Divided into groups of 20 and led by learning guides, learners rotated through five learning stations that were carefully themed to engage the staff in immersive learning experiences. The approach was designed to engage both the minds and hearts of the participants to create truly impactful learning experience that will help facilitate group sharing and personal reflection.

Results

In surveys conducted one month after the programme, 86% of supervisors of survey respondents to date reported observing improved staff performance with 94% observing that their staff were able to apply what they learnt about the SATS core values back at work.

In a separate survey of the staff also a month after the programme, 98% reported being able to apply at least one thing that they learnt about core values back on their jobs.
